JACQUELINE STANHOPE - Limited Edition Prints

'By his Mother's side' - a tender image from Jacqueline Stanhope.

Contemporary British artist specialising in pictures of horses and dogs. Portraits of Best Mate, Russian Rhythm, Montjeu, Giant's Causeway and many other great horses.

Even before she began school, Jacqueline's extraordinary talent for drawing set her apart from her peers. At the age of eleven she discovered oil paints and by fourteen had executed her first commission, a portrait of the legendary racehorse and stallion, Nijinsky. Subjects include some of the greatest racehorses of recent years, including: Mill Reef, Russian Rythm, Northern Dancer, Nijinsky, Best Mate, Giant's Causeway, The Minstrel and Sadler's Wells. Conservative and unpretentious, Jacqueline regards herself as a simple recorder of anatomy. Her enduring fascination for the mechanics and texture of animals allows her to bring accuracy and realism to her work. “I have clients whose animals have died. When they see my painting with the texture of the coat, the shine of the eye, the softness of the muzzle and its whiskers all reproduced on canvas then I can give them back a moment with their friend. I've surrounded myself with animals all my life and I just want to share the affection I have for them. Every painting is a tribute to the animal and it makes no difference whether it is Sadler's Wells or an unwanted greyhound.”
