Stuart Knowles's distinct style marks him out as one of the most promising young British equestrian artists
Stuart James Knowles was trained at Salisbury College and Bath Spa University College where he achieved a BTEC diploma and a BA in Fine Art.
For the past few years he has worked exclusively with the horse as subject and has achieved an intensity of portrayal which is powerful and highly individual.
"The horse has the power to merge different realities...it manages to survive in a world between good and evil, gods and demons. In Hindu mythology the horse was created as a by-product of the gods when they were churning in the oceans of milk. The horse is said to have good and evil elements fused together...it takes us back to the organic sense of life which is being lost."

Stuart's paintings reflect the mythical status of man's long historical association with horses.
Commissions are possible. Prices for a commissioned painting vary and are wholly dependent on size, subject and background. Stuart normally works from photographs, and prefers to take his own, if possible. Please contact EFA for more information.
